Sodbury Vale Musical Theatre Club (SVMTC), formerly known as Sodbury Vale Musical Comedy Club (SVMCC), is a friendly amateur theatre group based in Chipping Sodbury. Established in 1967 with our first production in 1968, we have been bringing musical theatre, live music and community entertainment to the Sodbury Vale area for nearly six decades. As a registered charity, we are proud to welcome members from across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Our club is built on inclusivity, friendship and a shared passion for performance, with members ranging in age from teenagers to octogenarians. Whether you're an experienced performer, a backstage enthusiast or completely new to theatre, there is a place for you in our theatre family.
Our aim is to make musical theatre accessible to the local community while providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in live performance. We produce two shows each year at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, creating high-quality entertainment in the heart of the community.
We rehearse once a week at St Mary's Church Hall with occasional extra rehearsals at local venues and work together to bring every aspect of a production to life. From acting, singing and dancing to lighting, sound, set construction, costume design, make-up, marketing and ticket sales, our members are involved in every stage of the creative process.
We are particularly proud of the opportunities we provide for young people. Many of our members are students studying performing arts, who join us to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a real production environment.
Through participation in our shows, they learn not only about performing but also about the many behind-the-scenes roles that are essential to staging successful productions.
Over the years, we have seen first-hand how involvement in musical theatre can help build confidence, improve communication skills and create lasting friendships. For many members, SVMTC becomes much more than a club—it becomes a supportive and welcoming community.
Being located on the outskirts of Bristol means that access to large theatres is not always convenient or affordable for everyone. By bringing live theatre and music directly to Chipping Sodbury and the surrounding area, we help ensure that local audiences can enjoy quality entertainment close to home.
We also support the wider community by working with local charities and organisations, providing concerts, cabarets, and fundraising performances to help raise money for worthwhile causes.
Join our Theatre Family! Whether you're looking to perform on stage, help behind the scenes, learn new skills or simply meet like-minded people, Sodbury Vale Musical Theatre Club offers a warm welcome. Our members may come from different generations and backgrounds, but we all share the same love of theatre, music and community spirit.
We look forward to creating the next chapter of our story together.
